ABOUT ABIGAIL TODD
A Therapist Who Values Authentic Connection
I'm Abigail Todd, MA, LPC, NCC - a Licensed Professional Counselor serving clients in Colorado and Alaska, a National Certified Counselor and a doctoral candidate.
I work with individuals and couples across the lifespan, helping them navigate life's challenges and move toward deeper connection, healing, and growth. I specialize in trauma, neglect, anxiety, depression and relationship distress.
Relationships are the foundation of our lives, but even the people we love most can sometimes be the source of our greatest challenges. Whether you’re navigating difficulties with a spouse, partner, child, parent, sibling, friend, or even within yourself, you don’t have to carry the weight alone. My goal is to create a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported as you work toward meaningful change.
I work with teens, individuals, and couples, tailoring therapy to your unique experiences, needs, and goals rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we’ll identify the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, develop practical tools for navigating emotions and relationships, and create a collaborative plan for the growth you want to see over the next six months to a year. Therapy is an ongoing process, and we’ll regularly check in about what is working, how you’re experiencing the therapeutic relationship, and what may need to be adjusted along the way.
My approach is eclectic, relational, and holistic, drawing from evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered and existential therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and the Gottman Method for couples. I also incorporate insights from neuroscience and mindfulness to support emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, process trauma, improve focus, and build resilience. For couples, we may work through communication difficulties, trust and infidelity, intimacy concerns, parenting stress, or differing life goalsnot by choosing sides, but by strengthening the relationship and helping both partners feel understood and connected.
My specialty is in equine-assisted psychotherapy, utilizing the principles of Natural Lifemanship. Equines help people come out of their heads and into their bodies, making equine-assisted psychotherapy a great fit for anxiety, trauma, depression, and for those with less verbal processing. Before becoming a “traditional” talk therapist, I got my preliminary experience offering equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions as the equine specialist. An equine specialist is a role often used in the two-practitioner models of equine-assisted psychotherapy that rely on a therapist and a horse professional. I have been involved with horses since my early teens and am an avid, competent horsewoman. I have a bachelor's degree in equestrian studies, competed in 3-day Eventing, and have trained horses professionally. This experience allows me to offer equine-assisted psychotherapy in the dual capacity of both an experienced mental health clinician and an equine-specialist perspective.
I believe each person is interconnected with their environment, relationships, physical health, spirituality, emotions, and mental well-being. Honoring that complexity allows us to look beyond symptoms and understand the whole person. When desired, I can also integrate Christian counseling perspectives into our work and collaborate with other healthcare providers to support your overall wellness.
Choosing therapy is a courageous step toward understanding yourself, changing unhelpful patterns, strengthening your relationships, and creating a life that feels more fulfilling and aligned. If you’re ready to break cycles that no longer serve you, I would be honored to walk alongside you.
